Nintendo DS ‘Super Tough Pink Puff’
LEO BURNETT USA
Nintendo’s spherical superhero Kirby returns to the small screen, showing off his brand new arsenal of super powers in an animated spot that remixes the superhero cartoons of the 1950s with a taste of modern anime.
Motion Theory drew inspiration from “Mad Max” era cartoons and high-action anime to enhance the 100% cute, 100% action hero, Kirby. The animated spot, conceived by Leo Burnett/Chicago, celebrates Nintendo’s “Kirby Super Star Ultra” game for the Nintendo DS. The story opens with Kirby joyfully bouncing through the far away galaxy of Dreamland, utilizing a handheld style that feels like it could be a Kirby home movie. Once Kirby spots the camera he switches into hardcore kung fu mode, forgetting all about the butterfly he was chasing. The rest of the story bounces between Kirby showing off his toughest powers and his cutest moments, and then ultimately using his trademark inhaling power to vacuum up the camera itself.
