David Gray ‘The One I Love’
RCA RECORDS
Motion Theory creates a multiple exposure in motion, echoing the essence of a David Gray song about a soldier whose last memories, dreams, and love flash before his eyes as he lay dying.
The lyrics of David Gray’s “The One I Love” describe a mortally wounded soldier who, instead of mourning in his final moments, decides to focus on thinking of the one he loves. To convey the essence of this profound moment between life and death, Motion Theory developed a new visual technique that creates a multiple exposure out of two scenes in motion. The technique, which was captured in-camera, works as an extension of the song, helping to effortlessly combine memories, dreams, and reality into an emotional narrative. The sequences, which include childhood memories, everyday tragedies, and life’s best moments, range from bittersweet to hopeful, ultimately pointing to a deeply humanistic view of love, and a well-lived life.
