A futuristic Parkour playground was created as the backdrop for RPM “Choose Your Energy,” the latest spot directed by Guest Director Jon Favreau via Motion Theory for Wrigley’s 5Gum through Chicago-based Energy BBDO.  The spot is a modern, tech-savvy take on the classic hero’s journey, a metaphor for facing adversity.  The hero triggers the challenge, pushes himself to new heights, and finds something incredible on the other side.  The spot features an amazing performance by world-class free runner Daniel Ilbaca who worked closely with Favreau, Cinematographer Matthew Libatique and Energy BBDO to create an ever-changing Parkour environment that seemingly conformed to meet the performer’s next leap.   Jon worked with Mirada’s VFX team to build a detailed previs of the Parkour Choreography, designing the ultimate course compromising a complex matrix of high-tech metal pillars.  The team retained alignment of the 5Gum brand message with the overall design, color choice, lighting and visuals chosen for the course. The orange hued pillars track Ilbaca’s exhilarating ascent of the challenging Parkour course. Arriving at the pinnacle of the journey, Ilbaca touches a wristwatch-like device and is able to transform the solid metal pillar structures into a sea of blue soft form, pillow-like supports for a relaxing ride down.
