The Ultimate Runway Walk

Motion Theory directors Grady Hall and Mark Kudsi once again teamed with Y&R Chicago to bring Sears Fall fashions to the catwalk. The campaign celebrates the many sides of women and fashion by creating duplicates of the models with every step. To create the surreal stroboscopic runway experience, the directors featured three runway models set against an abstract Paris-style runway background. The models move gracefully and expressively to precisely timed choreography, showing off a new outfit or new pose almost every step of the way. At times, the models leave afterimages behind them as they walk, change outfits instantly, and defy gravity with a super-slow-motion jump. Production used motion control to create specific camera moves that could be duplicated multiple times and high-speed cameras to slow down the action to create the near-frozen moments. In post, the creative team was led by lead compositor Danny Yoon, VFX supervisor, John Fragomeni, art director Angela Zhu and lead animator Casey McIntyre. The upbeat energy-driven track was composed by music house Beta Patrol. The spot represents another successful collaboration with Y&R Chicago for Hall & Kudsi, who also teamed with the agency to launch the iconic Sears Book Campaign.
