Motion Theory puts a sci-fi twist on the experience of playing EA Sports NBA Live '06 with a spot that features NBA superstars Tracy McGrady and Dwayne Wade.

Wieden+Kennedy and EA Sports approached Motion Theory directors, Mathew Cullen and Grady Hall to capture the experience of playing NBA Live '06 with an offbeat, sci-fi concept. "Mech Warriors" features Tracy McGrady and Dwayne Wade in a venue that initially appears to be a practice gym, but turns out to be a high-tech testing facility for robots. The twist hits when McGrady finishes playing, and walks over to a line-up of NBA greats. He stops in front of Wade, then suddenly opens up mechanically, revealing a regular guy sitting at the controls of an advanced robot. The directors seamlessly mixed live-action, CG, and practical effects to create the spot's robotic twists. To add to the spot's realism, they teamed with the robot specialists at Stan Winston Studios, who created incredible life-sized versions of the robots for close-ups.
