Music and art spread across an urban landscape.
In order to market the flagship Presto brand across a dozen Asian countries, Nike and Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo sought a unique visual identity that did not depend heavily on written or spoken language. To achieve Nike's objectives, Motion Theory produced and directed live-action shoots in Tokyo, Shanghai, and Los Angeles, filming artists David Ellis, Sasuke, and Frek in the process of creation. The resulting art included organic forms, abstract patterns, and distinctive characters. Motion Theory designers then recreated the art digitally, integrated it into the footage, and brought it to life with an electronica soundtrack that seems to pump out of building-sized speakers as the spot unfolds. "Urban Canvas" centers around a colossal DJ spinning records on a building-sized turntable, pumping out sound through massive speakers to create the beat of the city - and the music that brings the art to life. Playful robots interact with geometric shapes and organic illustrations, all toward the goal of combining sound and form, and capturing the spirit of the art, landscape, and culture. An accompanying piece, "Layers," depicts the essence of the collaborative creative process between the artists and Motion Theory, resulting in works that appear throughout the Presto campaign.
